A yellow calla lily from our garden. This image was shot in the studio with a softbox to the left and a pancake overhead.

Cannon fodder for my July show.

Good technicals here, as usual! A bit centered, but I think a frame/mat/border will help bind everything together.

Question, what is a pancake?

Do you know how in marketing, the names of products should be short and catchy? The Ford Mustang, the Big Mac,... etc.. And then there's this: the Tamron AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical IF SP
Great detail and clarity. It looks very soft. :)

Thank You! I decided not to stylize the composition on this one, and let the lovely curves speak for themselves. I took a lot of stock of this flower though, and may do something with a more interesting crop/composition later...

A pancake is a type of softbox that looks more like a flattened Chinese lantern, so that it throws a very diffused light in almost all directions (just not up, it hangs on a boom). This one is from Chimera

Ah.. Interesting equipment. I just got some recently myself. Two monolights with a softbox for each. Not a bad starting kit.

And indeed, the curves are wondrous, only possible with such immaculate lighting.

How do you get your backgrounds as black as possible?

This makes me feel all cheerful and happy. I think it's the beautiful brightness that lights up the dark! It made me smile! ~E.

I use a black velvet (like) material drape and keep it as far back as my poor little studio will let me...
This is one of the most beautiful shades of yellow.
