Living in Monterey, sea otters and whales don't garner my interest like the occasional Bear, but this Grey Whale had the good sense to swim off into the sunset. The 'fluke' (not tail) is often shown before a dive as the whale curls under to arch his way down in search of food.

The waters of SE Alaska were alive with all kinds of sea mammals, greys were probably the easiest to spot, we saw several every day we spent on the water. Man is truly the stranger in this wonderful land.

you know. all my years in Monterey, i've never been out to whale watching. Seen plenty of otters, even a shark or two...but.. no whales. i love whales.
